Stocks are wealth in the same way that your house is wealth. You can't use either to buy something, you first have to convert them into money. If your house is appraised at $500,000 one month, and $400,000 the next, did the other $100,000 go to money heaven? Stock prices are like real estate appraisal prices, only much, much faster.
