Hi Chaz: Well first, there aren't that many new cdmaOne systems going in anywhere, so it looks like Ericsson concentrates on 3rd generation systems (under the old cdma2000 banner). The problem is that operators have already a close relationship with the suppliers of the original equipment and that's why you see some periphery products being pushed instead.

Naturally most of the foucs is with WCDMA as that is where most of the money is going to come form in the end (we certainly hope in the current economic climate!). The WCDMA is so much bigger and even today Ericsson has a substantial lead.

China is indeed a huge opportunity, but money doesn't grow on trees. Things will probably not be as quick as some people have (hyped?) hoped. Again, and I have said this enough before, it is the way of the business.

The interesting thing to ne about Ericsson's knoweldge base of cdma200 and WCDMA is what innovation they will add for cdmaOne/cdma2000/1xEv etc operators that would affect harmonisation with WCDMA (yeah, yeah, I've heard about harmony in the handset, but me thinks that will be years and years away - yes, you'll get one company doing it but the mass, as was in GSM dual/tri band, was to serve the primary market only. In this case it is WCDMA). Mmmm, I wonder if there is anyway to induce emulation?

Got to run,
M
