The universe could just be swinging between different states. It is easy to conceive of a universe in continual flux- eternal and always changing. The universe probably will only expand so much- more matter has been found (to keep the universe together, with I believe the requisite mass) so it is quite possible at some point the universe will collapse on itself, and then, perhaps, big bang again. At any rate, God seems to be completely superfluous. He , She or It is an extra step that is not needed. You define God as eternal. I could define the universe as eternal (I wouldn't, because I can't prove it, but I could).

Your definitions don't correspond to reality- I don't see why you tell other people theirs have to. But at any rate, I make no absolute claims on defining the eternal- I'll leave that up to you.
