It's politics as usual as the Fed. They don't want to be seen as being bullied by the market and the politicians into cutting rates.

So they react in a political manner by not cutting fast enough to fix the mistake they made last year by not commencing the cuts last fall before or during the elections.

They like to say they aren't swayed by politics, but most folks can see right through that facade.

If you watch Bill O'Reilly on "The Factor" (Foxnews), you'll not that he's taking quite the populist view with regard to forcing the Fed to be accountable to the American people for their actions/inactions. I think he's right on target, but obviously the Fed will lock in their heels to avoid any perception that they are reacting to the media.

Kinda like Nero fiddling while Rome burns... (although this analogy is not historically accurate with regard to Nero actual activities during his reign).
