I think the one who really should have "Angst" (I didn't know that this German word for "fear" is used in English, too) is Intel. In late December, early January when the Athlon 1200 was hardly available it seemed as if Intel would win the megahertz war with a very big margin. It must be a shock for Intel to realize that the good old Thunderbird can scale to 1400-1500 with ease.

The "Angst" is about the Palomino. The Thunderbird just now proves to be an even better core than previously thought: Impressive scalability without performance reducing design compromises. Now, AMD has been working for 1 1/2 years to further improve this core. I can imagine that quite a lot of people at Intel feel uneasy about what the Palomino designers will bring to the table.

If the Palomino delay turns out to be the result of a successful in-depth core reworking I shall not complain.
