"The local Office Depot is shutting down sales of DirecPC. No one around here wants it, they'd rather have cable."

Or perhaps they would like a system that works without all the headaches.
Or maybe everyone has misjudged the demand for higher speed www access.
The StaBand situation (IPO cancelled, only 25k customers) is less tahn encouraging. Much of the feedback I have seen on Starband is negative and it doesn't sound like they are delivering on their promise. Installers have told me that it can take up to 9 hours to install the system...

OTOH, if WildBlue can deliver on their promises then I can see this service really taking off (to the moon?).
I visited WildBlue recently and I am looking forward to their service introduction (3/02??). WB will be networkable using the existing phone wiring, they are aware of all the problems Starband is having and claim to have them addressed in their system. Their equipment costs are going to be similar to Starband, but I think the monthly fees will be less.
Should be interesting, too bad we have to wait a year.
