SB: I was in a business meeting in Tokyo, not far from the US embassy, and this guy stands outside with a microphone -- right on the sidewalk with a pa system that would make a heavy metal band jealous -- and he starts shouting and screaming stuff for two hours. So after one hour I politely ask what the hell is going on -- nobody wants to acknowledge that I have asked the question. Later, in private, I persist with my question -- who is that guy, what is he saying and why doesnn't somebody shut him up. Answer: He is Yakuza (organized crime), he is spouting far right political bs, and nobody stops him because they are afraid of what might happen. That is Japan. Everybody knows, nobody says anything and pretends it is not happening, and nobody does anything because they are afraid of the consequences.
