This dot.com blowup might be a great blessing for companies like Microsoft. I can imagine how happy Ballmer and company are about the blowup in internet stocks. Few survivers means Microsoft increases lead/takes lead/catches up to competitors. As an example MSN and Instant messaging are increasing in popularity. Fewer competitors who don't have the financial resources for R and D is going to fit in with their plans. While Yahoo and others are trying to cut costs, Microsoft is given a great opportunity to take advantage of its large cash reserves for product development.
