Scott,
I guess, in a way, one could say that the wild horses around Pyramid lake are managed, in that the Indians kind of tend to them, but when I was there, they were mustangs pure and simple. They had never worn a bridle, saddle, or even a hackamore (sp?).
There was a time when the Department of Land Management was trying to thin down the herds by killing them, which set off an uproar, but I left the area before any settlement was made. The hell of it is that the U.S. government owns over 85% of the land area in Nevada, in one way or the other, by military installations, or Indian reservations. When they get involved, something is bound to get screwed up.
