CeBit 2001: Alcatel demonstrates 7770 Routing Core Platform, the
future of Optical IP Internetworking

7770 RCP ready to enable profit-generating "Qualitative IP Services"

Hanover, Germany, March 22, 2001 - At CeBit 2001, Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE:
ALA) will demonstrate its 7770 Routing Core Platform, an optical IP router engineered to meet
stringent carrier-class requirements. The 7770 RCP enables service providers to deliver
differentiated IP services by guaranteeing network performance, a feature critical to the
evolution of packet-based service infrastructure.

The 7770 RCP integrates IP routing with optical transport and provides ingredients for
multi-layer restoration that Internet service providers need to grow their networks into the
next generation. The combination of Alcatel's 7770 RCP and ALMA Vision IP Network and
Service Management means carriers are able to support premium end-to-end services
through innovative traffic engineering tools and service level assurance. Alcatel's
award-winning network management tools significantly reduce operations cost.

At CeBit, Alcatel will demonstrate how the 7770 RCP interworks with the company's
complete optical core solutions, including the CrossLight photonic cross-connect. The
CrossLight, part of Alcatel's Optinex family, enables service providers to build highly
intelligent, all-optical networks that deliver greater capacity at reduced cost by routing light
through the CrossLight's all-optical switching matrix, avoiding expensive optical/electric
conversion.

Visit Alcatel at CeBit 2001 in Hanover, Germany, hall 16, stand A 08,
where Alcatel will be demonstrating the 7770 RCP, CrossLight photonic cross-connect and
ALMA Vision IP Traffic Engineering.
