California Assembly Rejects Plan to Pay Small Power Generators

Sacramento, California, March 22 (Bloomberg) -- The California state Assembly rejected a bill that would have cleared the way for the state's utilities to enter into long-term power contracts with smaller electricity generators.

The Assembly voted 48-24 for the bill, six votes shy of the two-thirds majority needed to approve the bill. Most Assembly Republicans voted no. Republicans said they objected to items in the bill that were unrelated to its central purpose.
