Mr Templeton's message works for me, even though he does not fill-in all the blanks for me and dazzle me with a bunch of facts and figures, but stay well within the meaning of "qualitative psychological nostrums".

It some how always helps to be able to quote someone grand and experienced like Sir John, with a public record, especially if the news is unpleasant.

The message works quite well if we can say (better if we can whisper) Benjamin Franklin said it first.

The Whispered Rule
People will believe anything if you whisper it.

Comin's Law
People will accept your idea much more readily if you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first.

In some sense, we are all ignorant, to varying degrees, due to our respect direct experience or lack of experience with bear markets, panics and such. We are now all experience with mania part of the script.

Bokonon's Advice
Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way.

Chugs, Jay
