"I think it's about time we realize the rift between our ideal of marriage and the legal considerations and figured out what, if anything, to do about it. The rift is permanent, at least as far as the eye can see. Pretending it's not there or that it can revert is playing the ostrich."

Hi Karen.
If you look at your statement it follows much of today's liberal thinking which came out of the 60's. BRING IT ALL DOWN. I know as I was there and saw it all come about. The truth is that this world will never be perfect under any circumstances. Death disease old age are irrefutable facts of life. You are correct in observing the frailties of marriage. However as we have see it is a far better institution with all of its flaws than any alternative that has been offered. My examples stand uncorrected as proof of the 60's assault on tradition. Funny how the liberals only want to conserve the environment but wreak destruction on all other institutions with unproven ideas. The communes failed just as the whole language idea failed the education system.
