Compare the current bookings slump to 1996 and 1998. suite101.com Note how in 1998, bookings leveled off temporarily at about the same percentage decline as they have reached now, before going through a further steep decline. On the other hand, in 1996 this extent of decline marked the bottom. How do we know which scenario will more closely resemble what is in store for us now? Answer: we don't. So I would have to conclude that the odds are no better than 50/50 that we are nearing the bottom on bookings.
