Heritable mutation has been done with fruit flies and mutagens. You seem to be saying that no mutation has EVER produced a viable offspring (outside of a lab). That just seems wrong considering that the only place you can observe flies easily is in captivity and that many of the mutagens were naturally occuring substances. That is why I used the example of nuclear explosions. So what exactly are you questioning? Speciation?
