>> Ericsson Launches Regional Wireless Data Centers, 3G Switching Center Marisa Torrieri Las Vegas - CTIA March 23, 2001 Wireless Today
This week, wireless infrastructure giant Ericsson [ERICY] pushed itself onto third-generation center-stage when it announced several new regional application development centers to further the growth of mobile data.
Mobility World is the name of the game plan designated to establish application development centers in every major country. The first three centers, which facilitate mobile data development with Ericsson partners, are based in New York, Duesseldorf and Madrid.
"We feel like, in a new age, we need to connect more closely with our partners," said Jeremiah Zinn, head of collaboration for Ericsson's CyberLab, during the CTIA Wireless 2001 show here. "In the data world, there are a diverse amount of applications that our customers - operators - need to sell to the end user, and Ericsson realized it might not be the best to provide this."
The development centers will help further Ericsson's growth, in addition to providing smaller vendors a leg-up to carrier relationships.
In addition to its plans to build development centers, Ericsson announced a 3G cdma2000 Mobile Switching Center, which will incorporate Ericsson's AXE platform. <<
