The Stockton school shooting in CA years ago was done with an AK47 obtained through the mail.

And if the person had used a shotgun bought at a local gun store it would have been less of a tragedy?

Mass killings are actually the biggest practical reason (if you don't consider freedom or the rule of constitutional
law to be practical) to argue against attempts at banning guns. The type of psychos who do these things can get the guns anyway, often taking time to plan the attack (like Columbine). They can and have been stopped on a number of occasions by armed civilians. If you wait for the cops to arrive then you get a couple of dozen deaths.

Your argument is akin to closing all fire stations in the country and promoting fire sprinklers and
combustion-proof materials in all buildings. Eventually, it may work, but a lot of houses will burn down in the meantime.

No his argument is akin to saying that while the fire department does good work we should have alarms and sprinklers and fire retardent materials, and fire extinguishers available rather then relying 100% on the fire department.
