Gordon:

I have been following this argument about the CA power situation for a while but have not had much to say. I do have one observation. There are many and I have read but cannot refer you to the articles, who forsaw what is happening. It is the result of a number of different trends that have finally come together. I don't know that I can articulate all that I have read, but what is clear is the problem is caused by the confluence of the additional power demands generated by a growing economy, a growing population and and growing use of energy due to the fact that it was and is historically cheap.

The resolution of the imbalance that has developed will require pain and permanently higher energy prices. This I think is inevitiable.

At this point trying to place the blame is non productive. It is better to try to understand the nature of the problem and create the best environment to solve it.
