"Article II.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Just a few random thoughts on the gun issue:

I have read that the term militia at the time the constitution meant every able bodied male over the age of 14 or 15 years of age.

In the federalist papers, Madison made it clear that one of the purposes of the Second Amendment was to protect citizens against oppressive government.

There is a book out(I just can't remember the name) which I have not read that argues that three is less crime in states where citizens are allowed to carry concealed weapons.

In England where few private citizens have weapons, forced entries of homes while people are at home is commmon. In America where many people keep a gun in their home it is not.
