I guess that's what makes a market. I think you're wrong. Of course some will reduce funding, but others will see opportunities and increase funding. GM is putting the Internet in cars, for gosh sakes! Why wouldn't gas stations eventually want to present themselves to that portal, as McNealy is fond of suggesting? What other clever applications will traditional businesses find? I assert that all the venture capitalists could disappear tomorrow and the Internet would still continue to have a bright future. I think you may be projecting your own experience as someone who has relied on VC (assuming you have) to the world at large. There are businesses who spend their own money innovating, you know.

The Yellow Pages has been saying for years that we should let our fingers do the walking. That takes on new meaning now. Don't you wish you could check your local Best Buy to see if they've got the VCR you want in stock without having to call and wait on hold? Wouldn't you like to be able to tell them to hold it for you, too?

Folks like JandR, Musiciansfriend, and others who I believe have viable Web models (even if for a while they're primarily nothing more than adjunct feeders to more traditional 800 numbers) will take business from others who will be forced to react. How many times do you find yourself calling an 800 number and ordering something you saw/researched on the Web -- even if you don't buy it directly via the Internet?

But that's JMHO.
