I could not have said it any better. The question like I stated is strictly in a business context and how the technology can be used to be profitable. Obviously oil companies figured it out (and yes they did pass on the better service through higher gas prices - but that is besides the point).

However something like etoys.com, or pets.com, or mothernature.com also have tried to use the technology to be in business. They failed because they never figured out how to be profitable. They did try though! And in the process they made a lot of money for companies such as Sun, Worldcom, Exodus, Intel, Cisco, etc. etc. My point is the etoys.com and mothrnature.com's of the world are gone and there wont be as many of them emerging as they did during 1999-2000. This will bring the growth rate of companies such as Sun, Exodus, Oracle, etc. etc. to a maturity level and something that is more reasonable (strictly in an investment context). Like the old Sun commercials used to say (which incidentally they no longer play that anymore): Sun is the dot in the dot-com. This is true. However the growth rate at which these dot-coms are going to emerge will come to single digits - and at best double digits in the teens - as oppose to tripple digits we hvae seen over the past 2 years.
