5GWLIAG Position Reaffirmation

Strong support for quick standards development for IEEE 802.11 with TGe and TGh extensions, and their global regulatory acceptance
Strong support for quick alignment between HiperLAN2 and HiSWANa Standards
Strong support for inter-working solutions between 802.11a and HiperLAN2/HiSWANa that would not affect expected commercial rollouts and products
Strong support for harmonized global spectrum allocation for WLANs in the 5GHz bands
Strong support for a process that is guaranteed to yield a single standard from the participating standards bodies in the future

Standards Development and Regulatory Acceptance – 802.11a
Strong support for quick standards development for IEEE 802.11 with TGe and TGh extensions, and their global regulatory acceptance
Apparent status of the market: there exist multiple product announcements that indicate rollout of 802.11a products in 2H01.
802.11a TGh extension should be aggressively worked to support regulatory acceptance worldwide as soon as possible.

Standards Development and Regulatory Acceptance – HiperLAN/2
Strong support for quick alignment between HiperLAN/2 and HiSWANa Standards
Apparent status of the market: there exist multiple product announcements that indicate rollout of both HiperLAN2 and HiSWANa products.
Since HiperLAN2 already includes functionality equivalent to 802.11a TGh and has regulatory acceptance in Europe, an equivalent effort for HiperLAN2 is not necessary.
HiperLAN2 and HiSWANa full alignment should be aggressively worked to support harmonization in 5GHz.

Strong support for interworking solutions between 802.11a and HiperLAN2/HiSWAN that would not affect expected commercial rollouts and products
Both standards will apparently exist

Single Standard Process
Strong support for a process that is guaranteed to yield a single standard from the participating standards bodies in the future
5GWLIAG will actively support the formation of the 5G Partnership Project (5GHzPP)
Steps to be taken to make this a reality ASAP (Jamshid and Stuart)
IEEE/ETSI/MMAC collaboration in this process (Jamshid and Stuart, and TBD)
Or another mechanism to consider

Re: Raytheon presence
can't find link but they have an 802.11a ASIC (if memory serves)

e. Strong support for a process that is guaranteed to yield a single standard from the participating standards bodies in the future
i. Support formation of 5GPP
ii. What are the steps (Jamshid and Stuart)
iii. IEEE/ETSI/MMAC collaboration
iv. Any alternatives?
v. MS VERY SUPPORTIVE per Amer as MS rep

...

a. Next gen WLAN will be much more enhanced than either H2 or .11a. If this were not the case just amalgamate the two standards and eliminate pursuing a new global standard. Requirements need to comprehend:
i. Marketing
ii. Regulatory
iii. Features

...

b. The creation of a 5GPP (Bruce Kraemer) – draft a MOA between IEEE/ETSI/MMAC. Standards Org (per Jim Carlow) who also asked for a presentation at this Wed. Meeting. It was noted that 3GPP was not perfect and discussion will be entertained on how to improve upon the 3GPP process.

...

8. Comments:
a. Pratik – IAG was responsible for TGh formation
b. Thomas/Jamshid – how to transition 5GWLIAG into standard organizations?
c. Bruce/Garth – wait to make any decisions re the continued existence of IAG until 5GPP is formed and then consider how the IAG would inter-relate with 5GPP
d. Barry Davis – IAG really has not fulfilled its commercial mandate (e.g., BT pollution issues); if people do not think it performs a useful function then they will not attend.
e. Jamshid – What is Charter of IAG? It should be formally documented.
f. Amer – agree; how to get better participation?
