When it comes to pressing its advantage as the nation's #1 poultry producer, Tyson Foods is no chicken. Tyson breeds, processes, and markets chickens and Cornish game hens (although chicken accounts for most of its sales). It also produces tortillas and chips (Mexican Original) and feeds. Tyson sells its products in more than 60 countries, with food service customers accounting for nearly half of sales. Having emerged as the winner in a bidding war with Smithfield Foods, Tyson is buying IBP, Inc.(#1 beef processor, and #2 pork processor in the US). Once the deal is final, Tyson will dominate the US meat industry. Senior chairman Don Tyson, son of the founder, controls nearly 90% of the company's voting power.
