I've been told this thread has lost its usefulness...
I recently chatted with a couple of IPM investors and lurkers, who have told me they've stopped reading the thread, and feel many others similar to them have also. Reason: They are busy proffessionals -- just don't have the time anymore to separate the wheat from the chaff. One described it as:"The SI thread used to be on land -- now it is on water -- where there are little islands of useful information -- but mostly empty water." He was commenting on the lack of meaningful posts, and the proliferation of attacks/heckling/people generously dropping by to remind everyone of Bre-x (lest they forget!) and all the side issues dragged on far beyond meaningful discource by both pro's and con's... I put up what I thought was a very meaningful article on assaying - but got zero responces, compared to many on the "flame wars"...
I have taken this feedback to heart and I am going to try and post in another direction. Occassionally, I will put up one post commenting on all the side threads, and mostly concerned with fact-checking and consistency. I will try to keep the quid pro quo thing to a minimum. For the rest, I will do fewer posts, focused on the bigger picture and relevant issues.
Currently we have had a lot of egos battling, including my own. While some of this battle on both sides may be righteously heartfelt, the number of posts on this thread is rising to a point where it is difficult to tell someone to "check it out"...
Some members of the "non-believers" have in the past said they wish to reduce the signal-to-noise ratio -- and I hope they will once again work in that direction. Others, who are "short" on IPM and new facts, but have too many unanswered questions that _remain_ unanswered after many posts... Perhaps the proper thread for the continued discussion of them is the Emperor's New Clothes thread... which really is running very dry. If some feel an overwhelming compulsion to protect naive innocent newbie lurkers who might read a couple optomistic posts from the "longs" here and rush to buy stock they think is a scam... I'm sure it would suffice to post the bulk of the ridicule and scam theories there, and over here just point out the existence of that thread and invite them to take a look. Certainly we could have a greater degree of coherent, if not civil discourse, both pro and con.
