Another problem is the wide different in "quality" level between the top and bottom schools, at least in our area. Generally, the scores of the schools follow the income levels of the area. The schools rely pretty heavily on parent participation; in higher income areas, there seems to be more participation because a higher percentage of families are one-income (and thus at least one parent has more time on their hands).

Not to start yet another debate, but I personally am OPPOSED to vouchers and privatization of our schools, but would rather see the schools fixed. I believe that privatization would only increase the 'education gap', and create a permanent chasm between the haves and have-nots.

Doctor friends of mine have said that retalin (sp? used to treat ADD) is way over prescribed today.
