Re: Now The Register seems to be a vehicle of software, I want to have very little to do with it.

That's official.

I'm hoping that we're just reading the transient thoughts that sometimes come after appreciating fine spirits - an appreciation enjoyed by almost all great writers.

:-)

If not, this is a sad time for all of us, and the death knell of The Register.

I'm sure you're being constantly recruited by every print magazine and web site in the industry, so I'm sure you'll just return to us from another forum - don't leave us, Mike!

The Register has been a wonderful creation, but if the time has come to move on, I think we all encourage you to do whatever you feel must be done.

I've noticed that Byte is performing a Phoenix imitation - your presence at their site, with your reputation, energy, and sense of style added to their editorial staff could transcend them from a once-in-a-while site to a several times a day site - like The Register whenever you're contributing regularly.

I always had a soft spot for Byte - they were the New York Times of the information press for so long. They seem to be working hard to rebuild the "old grey lady", but are still missing the energy and sense of humor you've always brought to The Register

Best Wishes whatever you do,

Dan
