When corporations do things, which are not adequately being factored in to the cost of business- should not these inefficiencies in the business world be addressed? It is an inefficiency to allow a business to add chemicals which cause cancer to a cities water (for example), and not require the business to pay the cost. That's what the market place is about. What cost the "market" (society) places on a human life, or human misery, fluctuates- as any commodity fluctuates. Just as soy bean farmers have to gamble on the price of soy beans, polluters are gambling about what the price for their activities will be. Just as law firms gamble when they take on large cases- since these cases can sometimes bankrupt a law firm.
