Dan, which is more likely to have a well informed, and therefore correct, opinion: An average citizen or a member of the financial analyst community? Remember that the latter thought that your beloved AMD was roadkill back in 1999. Also remember that the latter told everyone to buy INTC stock back during its highs in mid-2000.

So I wouldn't defend the purveyors of "conventional wisdom" if I were you.
