Hong Kong stocks - factors to watch - March 26

Sunday March 25, 8:06 PM EST

HONG KONG, March 26 (Reuters) - Following are some of the factors likely to affect Hong Kong stocks on Monday.

OUTLOOK:

* Hong Kong stocks may rise from 17-months low at the open, helped by firmness on Wall Street, but the potential uptick may be brief as investors remain cautious.

* Both the Dow and the Nasdaq rose over one percent on Friday as investors bet the market's bottom may be near after weeks of relentless pummelling and snapped up shares at bargain prices.

STOCKS TO WATCH:

* Trading firm, Li & Fung (0494) will report its 2000 earnings later Monday.

The results of the company, which derives 75 percent of its revenue from the U.S., would shed light on the extent of the impact of a slowing U.S. economy, dealers said.

The consensus estimate published by Multex Global Estimates is for Li & Fung to report a net profit of HK$867.9 million for 2000, up 51 percent from 1999's HK$574.64 million.

Li & Fung shares ended up 3.42 percent at HK$12.10 on Friday. The stock is off 14.79 percent so far this year.
