Terry, don't forget this bear is barely a year old in tech and only a couple of week's old in non-tech. The wild optimism at the top of the bull came after a 5 year bubble and an 18 year bull market.

You have a good point that as a student of the market, the pervasive doom and gloom tells me that a bottom is near and I will indeed be going long in the near future. However as a student of economics, the data is telling me that the bull has no hope of resuming anytime in the near future and that the bottom at hand is intermediate in nature..

Furthermore, whereas I agree that sentiment SEEMS bearish, the huge small speculator long position in the SPX and NDX futures and ridiculously low put/call ratios are telling me that people are not putting their money where their mouth is. The bearish sentiment is simply anecdotal in nature.

Your assertion of a strong 12 months is implying a return to the bull. The best the bulls can hope for is a strong bounce. You'll be able to put those clownbucks to good use soon enough. <g>
