Scumbria,

The L2 policy on T-Bird is strictly eviction-based, but there is nothing preventing the Palomino designers from supporting prefetching. It is not a huge change to add an extra datapath into the L2.

Good to hear about the possibility that additional datapath would be within scope of the Mustang core tweak. If AMD were to do it, would that change your caution about (or opposition to) prefetching?

If the prefetching could is done to L2, than a further increase in performance could be achieved in the future by increasing the size of L2, which IMO is a sure bet for .13u K7s.
