Finnish telecom equipment group Nokia said on Monday it had won a deal worth about $100 million to deliver Peru's first commercial GSM 1900 mobile network to Telecom Italia unit TIM.

"TIM is a new customer for Nokia, which is the sole supplier of the new nationwide network," Nokia said in a statement.

The two-year agreement will proceed in three phases, ending with full coverage in several Peruvian cities by June 2002, Nokia said.

GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications, which is the world's leading mobile phone network standard. <<
