I would add that while it is important for individuals to do DD, sometimes the accounting gets so complex that it is impractical timewise and expertisewise for most individuals to tackle it directly. In that context, I believe articles in the financial press can be of great use to an individual--so more than anything I think it is unfortunate that individuals may criticize articles attacking their "love-stocks" instead of seeing that those articles may indeed be helpful to improving their understanding. Certainly some articles at the sites I mentioned greatly improved my understanding of Cisco's financials--an understanding I don't think I could have gained simply by looking at SEC filings myself, as I lack the accounting expertise. The articles and chat postings at grantsinvestor by Robert Tracy were particular helpful. I would note that Tracy is a CPA.
