The quote that caught my attention was from the other press release.

Today the thermally imaged plate is run through a process to basically remove the unexposed areas with aqueous chemicals. Future developments will no doubt provide additional benefits for these plates such as processorless operation. The technology of thermal imaging offers many advantages to users today in operation, quality, durability and is environmentally friendly.

It sounds like Pearlgold (processless) is the standard Kodak is trying to achieve (but of course with the ability to go 1MM impressions).

That will be difficult since Pearlgold is a patented, proprietary non-photographic DI technology. The non-photosensitive film is a major key to PRST's advantage and it is my understanding that the film and/or the process of using non-photosensitive film is patented.

No doubt there will be competition, but at one time Big Blue did not think a little company called Microsoft could hurt them just because Microsoft had a better product.

PRST still seems likely to grow and become a leader in the plate industry because of the quality of their product. Maybe competition will limit future growth to 35% market share instead of 60%, but the advances seem to be coming faster from PRST this year than from the competition.
