PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1997--

While other ISPs force customers to chose between competing 56K technologies, EarthLink adopts
both

EarthLink Network Inc. (NASDAQ:ELNK) announced it will begin providing 56kbps modem access,
giving its members faster access to the Internet.

While other ISPs force their customers to choose between competing technologies from U.S.
Robotics and Rockwell, EarthLink members will enjoy access to both 56K solutions.

EarthLink will begin immediately offering its members both x2 (U.S. Robotics) and K56flex
(Rockwell and most other modem vendors) connectivity through local points of presence (POPs) in
Southern California. Both technologies will also be immediately available nationwide through a
toll-free 800 access number (TotalAccess 800-service rates apply). Nationwide local K56flex access
via POPs located throughout the United States will be available by the end of the summer.

Both 56K technologies enable Internet connectivity through standard telephone lines at speeds nearly
twice as fast as today's common 28.8K modems. 56K modems provide faster delivery of Internet
information and are ideal for graphics-intensive Web pages, on-line gaming and collaboration, and
streaming audio and video.

Faster access enhances the overall Internet experience. With EarthLink's new 56K access service,
business and individual members can simply install a 56kbps modem to start enjoying high-speed
Internet access, at the same price as EarthLink's existing 28.8K access service.

"Through emerging technologies such as 56K, we are committed to providing our members the best
possible Internet experience," said Sky Dayton, founder and chairman of EarthLink Network. "But
since today's two dominant 56K technologies are incompatible, Internet users have been forced to
choose between competing camps when choosing a 56K solution. We're making this decision a
no-brainer by ultimately supporting both solutions nationwide."

Dayton added: "In the end, we hope the modem industry will get together on a common standard for
56K. It is in the best interest of the modem industry and the Internet user community for these
technologies to be compatible. Until then, we will work to support both solutions."

About EarthLink's TotalAccess 800 Service

Toll-free nationwide 56K access will be available immediately through EarthLink's low-cost
TotalAccess 800 service: $24.95 per month for 5 hours of service and $4.95 for each additional hour.
Existing TotalAccess dial-up members may use the 800 number for a flat $4.95 per hour. More
