Thanks for sharing that. It explains a lot.

What exactly does it explain? Don't you "root" for a company that you invest in to do well?

I admit my post sounded stupid. Unlike some people here, I don't take pleasure in other's misfortune. But if you are rooting for something, you hope that the team or a company does better than it's competitor. That's the same as saying that you are rooting for your competitor not to do as well as the company you are rooting for.

But back to the subject at hand, right now it is just a hypothesis that P4 and Itanium are Intel's serious mistakes. As the evidence comes in, we can evaluate if the hypothesis holds any water, but so far, I have not come across anything punching a serious hole through it.
