"blank stares" - Jesus, you have no idea how often I have used those two words lately. Mostly about the clowns that I work with. A bigger conglomeration of sheep you have never met, just generally, not necessarily market- or economy-wise. But those, too.
It's bloody depressing.
And two of my very best friends are in the housing market NOW, of all times. And neither are even remotely interested in discussing dark, pessimistic thoughts.
Both are very bright human beings. One has a degree in Economics (yeah, yeah, I know), as well as Political Science. The other has a business degree and works with balance sheets day in and day out. But they are both pretty clueless about macro events, history and the state of American 'business' today. They tend to believe the headlines, or the surface analysis.
They prefer to go on about their lives without too much concern for the future. Bread and circuses. Too much other stuff to do, why worry about tomorrow? (The saving grace in both cases, is that both are government employees, so are very recession-proof, if not inflation-proof.)
And no one wants to discuss the one absolute bedrock, fundamental law of economics: TANSTAAFL
There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. Period.
If you think you've found a free lunch, start looking around and put your back to a solid wall...cuz RealMan approacheth, and he's gonna treat you just like the rest of the flock.
