Mmmm. There's a concept. So, at the point at human-level self-awareness is reached, a soul might be acquired...? How would a 'machine' react to that? How would it detect it - indeed, would it? And, since machine 'life' could be indefinitely prolonged, what would it make of the concept of death and resurrection... and an afterlife requiring death in the first place?

In fact, I can't even think of any SF that's covered that idea. But I'm sure to be informed otherwise.
