An acquaintance of mine was a successful day trader. In 1999, he was up well over 100% with a nice 6-figure income from his trading, and it was his 4th or 5th year of doing very well. 2000 saw him go down the tubes and into debt. It caused him and his wife to split up (but are back together now) and he had to get a regular job again. Even during the years he didn't have a regular job, the daytrading consumed much of his energy -- his wife said she'd wake up in the middle of the night and find him stewing over some decision he'd made, or something he was considering doing.

I think there's a good lesson there about daytrading -- even someone as experienced as him with a track record of several years can get rubbed out.
