Sorry, chic, I don't buy that at all.

If an OTC trader at a firm like GSCO built significant inventory in CSCO, he'd be out on his butt in a day.

If GSCO wanted to play an Abby bounce (and, BTW, I don't think they did), they'd have bought S&P futures. Much lower risk, and you can still get a pop.

Salomon would play Henry Kaufman pretty heavily back in the 70's and 80's in the bond pits, but the major firms learned their lesson soon after that. The risk/reward isn't there, playing the guru game. And, say what you will about their ethics, but the people at GSCO aren't stupid.
