"SpeedFam-IPEC Inc. (SFAM: news, msgs, alerts) said it will cut 18 percent of its workface and a 10-percent salary cutback for executives. The company blamed an industry-wide downturn. The chemical mechanical planarization systems manufacturer also reported a third-quarter loss of $13.8 million, or 46 cents a share, which beat the consensus estimate of a 52-cent loss. Revenue for the quarter totaled $56.7 down 22 percent compared with the $73.1 million reported in the year-ago period. Shares closed up 19 cents to $7." www2.marketwatch.com
