Marconi Extends Quality Program With Prestigious TL 9000 Registrations
Four North American Marconi Facilities Receive New Telecommunications-Specific
Quality Distinction That Distinguishes `Best in Class' Suppliers and Manufacturers
PITTSBURGH, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Marconi (Nasdaq: MONI)(London: MONI), a global provider of advanced communications solutions, announced today that four of its North American facilities are among the first telecommunications equipment vendors to have received TL 9000 quality registration from the QuEST (Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications) Forum. TL 9000 is a telecommunications-specific set of requirements and measurements built upon an ISO 9000 framework that assures that all participating telecommunications suppliers fall under the same guidelines and distinguishes "best in class" suppliers and manufacturers. "The fact that four Marconi facilities have received this certification reinforces our commitment to meeting and exceeding customers' expectations," said Mike Parton, CEO of Marconi Communications. "Maintaining high levels of quality standards is a fundamental part of the way we do business."
The purpose of TL 9000, which some service providers and carriers have begun to include as requirements in their contracts, is to define the telecommunications quality management system requirements for the design, development, production, delivery, installation and maintenance of products and services. Included in TL 9000 certification are cost-and performance- based measurements of reliability and quality performance of the products and services.
Most recently Marconi's Montreal, Quebec, and LaGrange, Georgia, facilities received official recognition for achieving TL 9000 registration at QuEST Forum's quarterly meeting. The Montreal facility's achievement makes Marconi only the second integrated telecommunications company in Canada to receive TL 9000 registration. The LaGrange facility is the first telecom enclosure manufacturer to receive TL 9000 registration.
Additionally, two other Marconi facilities in the Dallas, Texas, area (Bedford and Freeport) have also received TL 9000 registration. The registration of the Dallas facilities was part of the initial TL 9000 pilot and as such, Marconi is one of only 11 companies worldwide to be a "charter" member TL 9000 registrant. Marconi employees from Dallas served on all QuEST Forum working groups and played a significant role in the TL 9000 development in both philosophy and content. Marconi is one of the original signatories on the TL 9000 bylaws. Actual registration for the Dallas facilities occurred in January 2000, providing the first integrated Supply Chain/Business Unit certification within Marconi.
