A surprising (to some) procession of tech companies is announcing and will be announcing losses in the next few quarters - Palm and Nortel are the latest additions to the procession. 3Com's losses will not look so bad in this new light. And the fact that 3Com sells for well below book and below cash, has plenty of cash to weather the storm, and has already taken drastic steps to restructure for the new environment should give it a big advantage over many of its competitors that looked rather formidable just a few short months ago.
