Dell Names Clarke to Run Corporate PC Development

By Gary McWilliams
Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal

AUSTIN -- Dell Computer Corp. named Jeff Clarke, a vice
president who led the company to the largest share of the
engineering workstation market, to run its corporate
personal-computer product-development organization.

Mr. Clarke, 38 years old, succeeds G. Carl Everett Jr., 50,
who resigned effective April 6
to pursue "personal interests,"
according to a Dell spokesman. The products developed by the
unit he oversees are responsible for about 60% of the
company's revenue.

Mr. Clarke was vice president and general manager in charge
of Dell's engineering workstation business. In the fourth quarter
of 2000, Dell climbed past Sun Microsystems Inc. to become
the largest seller of engineering workstations world-wide,
according to International Data Corp.

Mr. Everett, who joined the $32 billion computer maker in
February 1998
as a senior vice president overseeing all its
desktop PC development and marketing, was unavailable for
comment. He joined Dell after an 18-year stint at Intel Corp.,
where he was vice president of world-wide sales.
