Thanks for the reco - I love Martin Cruz Smith but "Rose" slipped right past me. Just finished "Purple Cane Road" by James Lee Burke. It's not his best but he's always good. Still haven't read "Pagan Babies" by Elmore Leonard, keep trying to get it at the library but no luck so far. I read the first two chapters sitting down in a chair at Border's, I think it will be very good. And LeCarre's got a couple I haven't read yet, either. Still, nothing to compare to the first book you recommended to me, "A Perfect Storm."
