UMC (2303) closed @ 53.00 -2.0 vol 83,732,606 2nd most active +++++++++ TAIWAN WEIGHTED closed @ 5819.39 -64.94 (-1.10%) Day's Range :5816.39 - 5922.81 ++++++++ HOLD UMC: UMC announced to pay NT$1.5 stock dividend this year, which is much lower than market expectations. There might be selling pressure today as investors had expected an NT$3 to NT$3.5 stock dividend. The share price of UMC is not likely to outperform the market during 2Q01 as investors in Taiwan prefer high dividend plays. However, in the long run the decision seems to be a logical step toward reducing the EPS dilution problem for UMC.
