Province to host climate change workshop (01/03/28)

NB-RHS75

March 28, 2001

FREDERICTON (CNB) - More than 200 delegates are expected to attend the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG-ECP) Workshop on Climate Change, taking place March 29 - 30 at the Sheraton Fredericton Hotel.

The event is being co-hosted by the Province of New Brunswick and the Premier's Round Table on Environment and Economy. The conference theme is 'Climate Change - New Directions for the Northeast.'

The purpose of the workshop is to bring forward action options to be used by the NEG/ECP's energy and environment committees in developing a proposed action plan for consideration by the Conference at its next meeting in September 2001. It is not intended to be simply an information seminar, but rather a 'thinking and planning' session.

The format of the workshop will be plenary sessions for providing valuable information on climate change and concurrent sessions with expert panels and audience participation on issues which will lead to the development of options for addressing climate change. Recognizing that the program topic options are very broad, the two-day agenda will focus on the issues that are relevant to the region.

Details on the conference can be found at the following Web site: gnb.ca .

The Conference of the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers is an inter-regional, bi-national organization established in 1973 in recognition of the special bond that exists between the six New England states and the five Eastern Canadian provinces. Its members are the governors and premiers of those provinces and states.
