There's something to be said for the fact that nearly all of the benchmarks in which the P4 dominates are suspected to be bandwidth hogs. Spec2k is merely an example of a class of benchmarks that are great on the i850 but would suck massively on a i845/SDR. This class of benchmarks includes Quake III and several of the "streaming media" benchmarks that do great on the i850.

Personally, I think that Intel would be smartest to come out with no less than PC2100 memory support for the i845, eschewing PC133 and PC1600 (which will both likely underperform compared to the i850). It looks like we may not get this, though. :/
