Au dollar is just another problem hurting us.

Dropping interest rates SHOULD devalue the US dollar, but it doesn’t appear to be working. 60 cents was bad, but 50 cents is horrible.

My impression is that bad air quality is more common than that, certainly more prevalent than just Houston or LA. I live in Midwest city that routinely issues air quality warnings during summer months, restricting my exercise activity. Plus we’re forced to use inferior alcohol-laden fuels. It’s not life threatening, but it’s unnecessary, and that’s frustrating. The technology to clean up our air exists, and people are too cheap to pay for it even in cases where it’s relatively inexpensive. Now onto the money for OCP: It’s almost nothing per unit! It’s only adding $500 to the cost of a Sea-Doo, that’s “list” price, and that’s low volume production. It’s projected to only add $200 to the price of a high-volume 4S car, and based on the average price of such a car, it’s peanuts. The cruise control costs more. So if a $900 scooter goes to $950, who cares? The dirty machines need to be banned everywhere. If you give a poverty stricken consumer the choice, they’ll make the wrong decision every time; whether they’re in China, India, or Mexico City. That’s how they ended up having more kids than they can properly provide for! If you don’t have the sense to use contraception, I have no illusions about selling you OCP for an extra $50. It’s hopeless. The cost/reward ratio of clean scooters is so huge you can’t justify building the dirty machines, and the medical professionals of these countries should be advising their governments so. BAN THEM. These same medical professionals establish some level of water quality standards in even these disadvantaged countries (whether they are met all the time or not), and this is no different. Most pollution is from blatantly bad decisions, not mildly bad decisions. My knowledge of this is firsthand engineering experience in industrial manufacturing plants. And don’t forget, when you install OCP on these 2S scooters, the fuel mileage goes thru the roof. Yes, the OCP literally pays for itself. And in this energy environment, that’s huge. I have to concede we’ll continue to disagree on some points, but as long as we can also continue to debate them in a civilized manner, that’s fine. Life is too short to waste time calling people names. I truly enjoyed your well presented reply. It didn’t appear to be a soapbox at all.

These reports of Bombardier recalling Ficht motors built as recently as 2000 are no surprise to me. As I've stated for the last three years, when you run fuel pressures that high, you are asking for fuel leaks. And in marine applications where fuel vapors get trapped, that's a disaster. Can you imagine what these motors will be like when they're ten years old? Fuel leaks will be common, not rare.
