It looks very much like in California , a new power-generating /supplying /purchasing model will evolve.

Going to give a whole new meaning to
" California Liberal Conservationist "

Growers in the south already forming buying co-ops
looking for alternative sources.

" One grower's annual electric bill to run water pumps rose from $10,000 to about $40,000 on just one 40-acre grove -- he's paying about 29 cents per kilowatt hour. With that kind of bill, he's going to wait to see if he'll get lucky with a late-season rainstorm or a break in the electricity crisis before dipping into his wells. "

Now , if nature co-operates and doesn't send any droughts ...but when you add "acts of god" ontop of the current economic slowdowns ?

It will be aa healthy thing for people to start taking conservation moree literally.

The last oil crisis back in the early 70's finally got
Detroit off it's ass to make more efficient cars.
Though at the time they were selling whole fleets of
of oil/gas guzzling Busses to LA , and
lobbied successfully against mass
transit systems. Good capitalists, like
the tobacco growers those auto manufacturers.<g>

Current metro systems also consume
tons of electricity.
The average skyscraper now uses
8 times the electricity than
before the IT revolution , too.

CEO of SUNW was crying for Nuclear powre plants
when they got blacked out for 4 hrs some days ago.
Nukes in California ?

Don't think so , McNealy.
